Subtitle Size and Font
The size and font for rendering subtitles can be set at Settings › Subtitles › Subtitle Size and Subtitle Font.
Size
Subtitle size is measured against the video's resolution rather than the screen's, so subtitles stay the same size whether the video is in a small window or fullscreen on a television. The number does not change when you resize.
Font
System fonts are used by default, but a typeface style can be suggested from a short list: Sans, Serif, and Monospace, each in regular or bold. The exact face comes from your own system fonts, so it varies between computers.
Using system fonts covers Arabic, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai and the Indic scripts. Subtitles drawn as empty boxes mean that script has no font installed and installing one on the system should fix it.
Subtitles That Carry Their Own Styling
.ass and .ssa files can specify their own fonts,
positions, and colors. These subtitles will use their own styling and ignore
the font settings.
